UNDER THE INFLUENCE - THE WHITE LI(N)ES OF BART LODEWIJKS
An early influence on the Disappear Here project was the White Lines project by Bart Lodewijks; after seeing an exhibition of his work at the Whitechapel Gallery in London. Bart draws chalk lines in densley layered patterns that wrap around surfaces, appearing to bend space and offer disruptive interference to standardised environments like blank walls, billboards and under construction hoardings.
Bart's work is interesting because using a soft and temporal medium such as chalk against hard and heavy materials offers both a metaphysical contrast and alters our perception of an environment.
